Dear Parents and Guardians:
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! It is disappointing that we will not get to meet your children in the usual sense. However, I can assure you that our teachers will do everything possible to help get them off to a good start.
CCISD will begin the first weeks of instruction by disseminating work packets to all students. The electronic devices the District has ordered for each student will not arrive in time for the beginning of the school year - Sept. 8, 2020. This letter will provide you with the information you need to help your child with our new instructional model known as Remote or Virtual Learning.
Because your children will be learning from home, it is recommended that you establish a consistent learning schedule that can be followed each day. Having a regular structure can help make daily and weekly activities easier to follow and enhance home learning.
For example, a student may start each day off eating breakfast before beginning the first lesson. Families are now balancing at-home learning with many other priorities, so the schedule we are providing should help increase student learning in the morning (i.e. reading, math, science, social studies, physical education/health) while also meeting the needs of the family in the afternoons (i.e. appointments, chores, play time). More than ever before, It is more important that children get enough rest at night.
The Texas Education Center (T.E.A.) has directed school districts to provide the minimum required number of instructional minutes:
q5th Graders (elementary) minimum 180 minutes of work q 6th Graders (secondary) minimum 240 minutes of work
We've included the instructions for the assignments in the work packets. However, if your child has his/her own electronic device, they can access the same lessons in the work packets online.
Your child will receive communication from the teachers to your child's school email address. Ask your child to accept email invitations from the teachers to telecommunication learning time - also known as Classroom Connections.
Classroom Connections are times set aside when your child's teacher will provide ADDITIONAL DIRECT INSTRUCTION AND HELP on concepts and work in the packets.
Your child’s school email address will be:
- 5th graders: firstname.lastname@example.org
- 6th graders: email@example.com
You will be provided with your child's schedule, homeroom teacher's name, and assignments for next week on Thursday, Sept. 3, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. outside the cafeteria. The office hours your child's Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies, and PE teachers will be included. Along with your child's homeroom teacher, will be the other teachers who will work with him/her - including their office hours and subjects they teach.
Thank you in advance for your support as we begin the 2020-2021 school year with the new instructional models. Feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or (830)374-3486 ext. 404 if you have any questions or concerns.
